BURY have appointed former Barnsley boss David Flitcroft as their new manager.
The Bolton-based former Shakers player replaces Ronnie Jepson, who was placed in temporary charge in October after the club sacked Kevin Blackwell and has now left the JD Stadium.
Flitcroft, aged 39, made over 100 appearances for Bury between 2004 and 2006.
He returns with a wealth of coaching experience under his belt after working as assistant to Keith Hill at Rochdale and at Oakwell, before going on to replace him as Tykes boss.
"David is a dedicated individual who will not accept anything but the best for Bury Football Club," said chairman Stewart Day.
"He had received offers from other clubs at a higher level, but he has bought into what we are trying to achieve at this club and has committed his future to take us back to where we belong, the Championship."
Flitcroft defied the odds to keep Barnsley in the Championship in his first season, but was sacked as manager at the end of November after less than a year in charge, with the club bottom of the table.
